Rotary International
— What is Rotary
Rotary is a global network of more than 1.2 million neighbors, friends, leaders, and problem-solvers who see a world where people unite and take action to create lasting change – across the globe, in our communities, and in ourselves.
Solving real problems takes real commitment and vision. For more than 110 years, Rotary’s people of action have used their passion, energy, and intelligence to take action on sustainable projects. From literacy and peace to water and health, we are always working to better our world, and we stay committed to the end.
Rotary International’s areas of focus include;
Promoting peace – Conflict resolution, dialogue, and peacebuilding initiatives.
Fighting disease – Supporting health campaigns, including the historic effort to eradicate polio.
Providing clean water, sanitation, and hygiene – Ensuring communities have access to safe water.
Improving maternal and child health – Supporting clinics and health programs.
Supporting education – Literacy programs, scholarships, and school resources.
Growing local economies – Empowering entrepreneurs and small businesses.
Protecting the environment – Sustainability projects like tree planting and clean energy
OUR MISSION

VISION STATEMENT
Together, we see a world where people unite and take action to create lasting change — across the globe, in our communities, and in ourselves.
3 Branches of Rotary
Rotary International is built on three main branches that work together to create impact worldwide. At the grassroots level are Rotary Clubs, local groups where members meet regularly to plan and carry out service projects in their communities. These clubs are connected globally through Rotary International, the overarching organization that provides leadership, governance, and coordination across more than 46,000 clubs worldwide. Supporting both local and global initiatives is The Rotary Foundation, Rotary’s charitable arm, which funds humanitarian projects, scholarships, and major campaigns such as the fight to eradicate polio. This structure allows Rotary to balance local action with global reach, ensuring that service efforts are both community-driven and internationally supported.
History
Rotary started with the vision of one man — Paul Harris. The Chicago attorney formed the Rotary Club of Chicago on 23 February 1905, so professionals with diverse backgrounds could exchange ideas and form meaningful, lifelong friendships.
Over time, Rotary’s reach and vision gradually extended to humanitarian service. Members have a long track record of addressing challenges in their communities and around the world.
