Service Above Self!!!
The Rotary Four-Way Test is a simple ethical guide that Rotarians use to shape their words and actions. It asks four questions: Is it the truth? Is it fair to all concerned? Will it build goodwill and better friendships? Will it be beneficial to all concerned? By applying these principles, members ensure honesty, fairness, and positive impact in their personal lives, professional work, and community service.
01.
— Is it the truth?
As a Rotarian, act with integrity and high ethical standards. Acknowledge and define the problem including the root causes. Collect information and apply critical thinking by asking questions to identify the difference between facts, beliefs, assumptions and opinions. Moreover, be a trusted problem solver.
02.
— Is it fair to all concerned?
Keep in mind both the Golden Rule and the Platinum Rule. Identify and include all interested and affected parties. Try to understand the other point-of-views in the context of conflict and reaching shared goals.
03.
— Will it build good will and better friendships?
Rotarians are known for being sociable and building relationships. Ensure the process is civil and there’s a feeling of respect and openness to ask questions that can lead to creative and innovative solutions. Discuss and agree on desired outcomes.
04.
— Will it be beneficial to all concerned?
Have an open mind and a curiosity for new ideas, novel applications and different point-of views. Consider many options and build on different ideas. Come to mutually beneficial solutions that are sustainable and scalable.
In Zimbabwe, Rotary Clubs play a vital role in strengthening communities through service, leadership, and humanitarian projects. We bring together professionals from diverse fields to address pressing local challenges such as healthcare access, education support, and poverty alleviation. The Rotary club of Harare has organized medical outreach programs, donated school supplies, commissioned school blocks and supported clean water initiatives in underserved areas. Beyond service, they also provide a platform for networking and professional growth, fostering collaboration among members while promoting ethical leadership. Rotary’s global mission—like the fight against polio—intersects with local priorities, ensuring that Rotary clubs contribute both to international humanitarian efforts and to the immediate needs of Zimbabwean communities. Through fundraising events, youth mentorship via Rotaract and Interact clubs, and partnerships with local organizations, the Rotary club of Harare continues to be a driving force for positive change and civic engagement.
